It’s always a little intimidating to have your picture taken .... even if it’s just a photo on a phone that is taken by a friend, we still want to make sure we look our best.Â
I realised that preparing for your session can be a little overwhelming. Here are some tips for outfits and accessories that will make the shoot preparation a little more manageable!
- Don’t try to MATCH... co-ordinate and try to pick outfits and accessories that compliment each other instead.
- Please steer away from neon and bright colours especially in tones of yellow, orange, red as it reflects back on the skin in natural light. Rather opt for the muted version of these colours.  If you unsure pastels and neutral colors works great for photos. Â
- Don’t be afraid to be BOLD though!  Accessorise and make your outfits your own. Scarves, hats, bold necklaces, blankets and fun shoes are always welcomed!
- MOST PATTERNS are actually ok.... however, graphics are not favourable for portraits. If you’re wearing a pattern, make sure it’s not overwhelming and distracting.
- Most often, people like to have one casual, everyday outfit and then one outfit that is dressier! This will give your shoot two totally different looks. I recommend beginning with the dressy outfit first! If we shooting outside at a location with no changing facilities and that's a distance from the parking area it might be a good idea for ladies to wear a ski pants and a tank top underneath to make changing easier.Â
- Empty your pockets! You don’t want to have key chains, a wallet or phone showing through your pockets. (This is for the guys especially!)
- Make sure you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing. And ladies, if the top is super low cut, that will limit the amount of angles I can shoot from, same with the dress as we might want you to sit or lie down.
- Please wear comfortable shoes as I like to walk a bit looking for pretty light. If you like heels and would like to wear them please bring it along.
- Ladies if you are wearing make-up like foundation be sure to blend it really well especially at the hair & neckline. Less is definitely better.
- If you decide to colour your hair or spray tan please do it atleast 1-2 weeks before your shoot to allow the colour to settle a bit.
- PLEASE BE ON TIME! Especially if we planning a shoot just before sunset. The later you arrive, the less time we have to shoot.
- If you doing an engagement/pre-wedding shoot please remember to clean the ring! I love to shoot a few ring shots while you change outfits! The cleaner the better!
- If you doing a family session please make sure the kids snack & nap beforehand and don't lecture them too much.  I want the kids to be themselves and they don't need to look at the camera and smile in every photo.Â
- Relax! You don’t have to be a pro at this! I’m going to help you along the way and make sure you have fun! This is a time you get to spend together with your loved one/s, so enjoy it and make it an outing!
